When you are an expecting mother, you fill out all kinds of forms at the doctor’s office, your insurance agency, online, through the mail… it seems that they are never ending. Once all the baby product companies learn that you are expecting, you seem to get bombarded with all sorts of information, coupons, and free samples of everything. But when the free samples arrive at your door, what do you do with them? Use them or pitch them? Especially formula.

Enfamil is giving away a Free Diaper Bag, Feeding Kit, and Enfamil Samples 

Well, after the birth of a new baby, you have already decided if you will breast feed or formula feed. If you are breastfeeding, and a free sample can of formula arrives at your door, don’t throw it out. Put it up somewhere, since there will come a day when you will stop breastfeeding and start to wean your baby onto formula and regular foods. If you aren’t breastfeeding, then this can come in very handy. The free can of formula that arrives might not always be the kind that you are using, so should you switch your baby to a new brand, just becuase it came free in the mail? Not right away. If your baby is doing great on the brand you currently have her on, don’t switch. But, keep this free can in the cabinet, just in case. The great thing about formula is that it won’t go bad for a long time if it has never been opened. So, you can put it away for an emergency, such as when you run out and baby is screaming for a bottle!

Enfamil is one of the top formula companies in the U.S. and sends out thousands of free cans of formula each month to expecting and new mothers all around the country. I myself received two free cans while expecting, and decided to just put them up for later use if needed, since I was not feeding my new baby this type of formula. The free sample can that comes is a regular size can that you would purchase at the store, more than enough for at least a week’s worth of bottles for a newborn. They also send you the top of the line formula, with all the DHA and other great brain-building add in’s that help baby’s brain, eyes, and other parts develop best. After recieving the free can, I did a little research into Enfamil and the other formulas that offer these new ingredients that help with the development of your baby. Almost all of the new formulas contain the same ingredients in the same amounts, so basically, they are pretty much the same in that arena. The biggest difference is the other ingredients, such as whey proteins, that help baby digest these formulas. So, the key is to find the formula that is easiest on baby’s tiny tummy. When you find it, stick with it. But, when we completely ran out of formula and I had to dip into the free sample, it didn’t upset my newborn’s tummy and she took it just fine until we got the regular type that she normally eats. So, if I had to switch, it is much easier to try out a new brand with a free sample than going out and purchasing a can that costs over $9 each.

While it is best to stick with one formula and not switch around all the time, it isn’t to say that you cannot use the other formulas if you need them. Save these free formula samples for those times when you run out and don’t have any left to make it to the store. Or pack them in a diaper bag as a back up, in case you are out somewhere and they don’t have the formula that you normally use. These free cans can be life-savers when you really need them, so don’t pitch them out with the other offers just yet. Plus, with these cans comes great coupons for other great baby items, such as diapers, so don’t be too quick to discount the offers they send you. If you are dead set against using these other brands of formula, then you should look on the site for the formula that you are using and register for free coupons and other great offers through their company.

But, overall, any free sample of formula can be a life saver sometimes, so don’t pitch them all out just yet.
