You know that Spring is in the air when all the home and garden stores start advertising all those glorious flowers and plants. They offer great deals on seeds, bulbs, and full-grown plants, but hey, free is better than that, right? So, how do you get seeds or bulbs for free? It’s easy, and here are some helpful tips so you can find free seeds and bulbs:

1. Do a simple search for “free seeds” or “free bulbs”. While you might have to weed through some of the results, you will always find a few great places to get some free seeds or bulbs of your favorite flowers. Beware: some companies will offer you free seeds and bulbs, but only if you agree to purchase other plants at regular prices.

2. Call some of the local nurseries when the growing season ends. Most will have plants that they need to get rid of really cheap or will give you annuals that they cannot keep. While the annuals will die, you will get great seeds for the next season.

3. Check out some of the home and garden web sites on the Internet. Many different areas of the US will offer free seeds or bulbs to help bring back native species of plants that are becoming extinct. While you might not get prize orchid bulbs, you will get some great seeds and bulbs for beautiful flowering plants or trees and be able to grow some native flora and fauna at your home.

4. Ask your local zoo or botanical gardens. Some zoos and botanical gardens are overrun with certain types of plants and are happy to get rid of them. You can ask the information desk to find out who you would talk to about seeds or bulbs.

5. Friends and family members with beautiful gardens are usually the best place to get some beautiful flower seeds or bulbs. Most plants that produce seeds will eventually overrun an area if not kept in check, so you can always ask your friends or family if you can get some seeds to take home. If your friends or family members have plants that have bulbs, then they will need to be split every year or so, so this can be a great way to get expensive bulbs for free and enjoy those beautiful plants next season.

6. Check with some of the garden shops at the end of the season. Some will actually throw out the plants that they don’t sell, so if you can find out when they do, you can get some great seeds or bulbs for the next season.

To find great free seeds and bulbs, all you really need to do is a little leg work in your area or on the Internet. The deals are everywhere and you will find that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a great garden each and every year. So, do a little leg work and you will find that you can get whatever kind of seed or bulb you are searching for to make your flower garden pop.
